VirtualBox

Portable Versions

I normally use portable apps rather than installer versions and for years I've used VirtualBox Portable for
testing various Windows XP and multiboot installs, as well as for dropping a few of my favourite VMs onto a
laptop to futz around with when I'm travelling.

You may have a use for VirtualBox Portable as well, so I've included a few versions here for download.

The few versions below are a small selection that will run on x32 or x64 machines from Windows XP and up.

I've also included one of the last versions of the original VirtualBox by Innotek that will run on Windows 2000
(although it's an installer version rather than a portable version).

All versions include the relevant extension pack and guest additions (except for Innotek v1.5.6).

No install needed (except for Innotek), just extract the folder from the zip file and run VirtualBoxPortable.exe.

Windows 10 Defender has no issues with these files as they seem to be a pretty standard plain vanilla installs,
outside of the program launcher that loads/unloads the VirtualBox driver(s) on startup/shutdown.

Update for Nanny Google, Dec 2025

Nanny Google now marks this page as "Dangerous". Give me a break.

Why are smartphone users so insecure and lacking confidence in themselves ?

That kind of nonsense really gives me the irrits.

Rather than futz around with encryption, download links below are now links that get files from a file server
using a file share option rather than from this web server which nanny google can crawl for content.

Removing the files from the web server may cause the nanny google crawlers to settle down and remove the
dangerous site warning for this page.

If that doesn't happen and this page stays marked as dangerous then Chrome and Supermium will continue to
block all downloads and you'll need to over-ride Chrome's "Dangerous File Blocked" warning or use a browser
such as PaleMoon/LibreWolf/Basilisk that isn't yet infected with the Google Miind Virus.

Note regarding VirtualBox Portable driver error:

Running different versions of VirtualBox Portable or VirtualBox installed version in a single Windows session
will most likely result in VirtualBox Portable driver load error. The only way to resolve this is to reboot the PC
and then only run one version of VirtualBox Portable in any Windows session.

I suspect this is caused by a VirtualBox Portable driver load/unload issue. Not a big issue unless you're trying
out multiple portable versions in the one Windows session.

Links to various websites with portable versions of Virtualbox

Missed including these originally, so here they are.

Portable Appz:
     https://portableappz.blogspot.com/

My go-to for many years for portable versions. Current Virtualbox version is 7.1.6 (April 2025).

Search for "Virtualbox" for the most current version.

Vbox.me:
     https://www.vbox.me/

This site has been around for a while and certainly gets the job done. Reasonable documentation.

Hard to tell exactly what the current version of Virtualbox being used is though.

PocketVbox:
     https://pocketvbox.app/

Formerly GreenVbox. Current Virtualbox version appears to be 7.0.24 (April 2025).

The documentation about the GUI is pretty sparse.

FC Portables:

Also has a portable version of Virtualbox. Current version is 7.0.4 (April 2025).

The site seems to portable-ise numerous apps, which may or may not be sketchy.

Use Google to get a link.

KaranPC:

Another site that has a portable version of Virtualbox. Current version is 7.1.2 (April 2025).

The site also seems to portable-ise numerous apps, ala FCP, which also may or may not be sketchy.

Use Google to get a link.

LiLi:   (now abandoned)
     https://sourceforge.net/projects/portable-virtualbox-for-lili/

Portable version of Virtualbox specifically for LinuxLive (LiLi).

Last Virtualbox version 5.0.16.1 from 2016.

LiLi website c2013
   https://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/other-versions

And lastly:

Here's the Oracle direct download link for versions 4 to 7 of VirtualBox:
       http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/

Oldversion.com has VirtualBox versions 1.4.0 to 4.2.18 for download here:
       http://www.oldversion.com/windows/virtualbox/

And . . . the usual disclaimer:

As with all web links, adult behaviour, and a good AV, is required.

And by AV, I mean a real AV - such as Windows Defender, AVG, Avast, etc. - and not the shite Virus Total site
which has turned into complete rubbish now and promotes bottom tier AV vendors whose names seem to
comprised of random characters and who seem to flag almost every file they check as a threat.

Seriously - do you know who K7GW, Sangfor or Jiangmin etc. are ?

No ?

Neither does anyone else.

Avoid it.

Kind regards,
Shotter_nail
